Wine Investment

Why invest in wine?

Wine investment is a great way to diversify your portfolio, with a low correlation to traditional financial markets. It is also a great hedge against inflation, as fine wine has proven to be a great store of value over the long term.

At Hatton & Edwards we have been trading fine wines for over 10 years and have a proven track record of providing our clients with market-beating returns. We have a team of experts who are always on hand to provide you with the best advice on what wines to invest in, and when to sell them.

Fees

  • Storage – £12.00 per 12x75cl  (including VAT and insurance)
  • Landing Fee – £0.00
  • Picking Fees – £0.00
  • Photography/Condition reports – £5.00 per case

Wine Investment is much like any other, to be truly successful you need solid fundamentals:

  • Sage advice
  • Low costs
  • True liquidity

There’s little point buying a wine for your portfolio if it has no secondary demand, or if you’ve paid too much for it, or if the cost of carrying it/storing it for 3-5 years is too much.

Best entry prices

At Hatton & Edwards we offer the best entry price for any particular wine for investment, giving you the biggest potential upside to your investment. We do this by having some of the finest priced-to-market stocks, and a philosophy of only recommending wines that we know to be good investments with proven track records.

Market beating storage fees

We also offer market-beating storage fees, with no management fees, or complicated tier systems based on spend. We have teamed with London City Bond, the U.K.s most successful bonded warehousing company, to provide you with industry-leading storage charges of £12 per case of 12 bottles per year inclusive of VAT.

Boutique advice

We also offer a full audit of your existing portfolio, advising which cases should be sold and which should be kept, being brutally honest about it to get you the best from your position.

Some shortcomings other wine-investment companies have are expensive management fees that eat into your profit, costly exit fees when it comes to selling your wines that further erode your investment and poor recommendations for what is truly investment-grade.

Poor recommendations are particularly difficult, as any wine can be sold on a good story. At Hatton & Edwards we know what trades in the secondary market, and so will only recommend wines that we ourselves would buy to trade, wines that we can show past performance on, and that have secondary market demand.

Many clients join us after becoming frustrated with their current holder. Often your best friend when selling you wine but absent when it comes to updates or when you may like to sell.

It is straightforward to move your current portfolio to ourselves. Once this has arrived at your storage account with us, we will provide a full audit advising which cases should be sold and which should be kept, being brutally honest about it to get you the best out of your position.

We have invested in a great team who genuinely have time to manage investment wine portfolios, to book a call or a meeting, just fill in the callback form.

Correct stock picking is paramount, if for example you want to place £50,000.00 into the wine market it is very possible that on exact day or week there isn’t a full £50k parcel that would make genuinely good investment sense, many companies in this instance would source stock to fulfill the amount (meaning you are now coming in over market) or worse sell you undesirable stock from their list that perhaps they haven’t managed to sell to this point. We take our time to place our clients investments, sometimes over weeks to ensure it is stock that we truly believe in. We provide a detailed rationale for why you are investing in a parcel and offer to refund the difference if you find the same case cheaper on the UK market 7 days from order.

With over 10 years of trading wines and at the forefront of liquidity providers in the fine-wine space, we are extremely well positioned to advise on the true market demand for wines for any portfolio. If you already have a selection of wines that you have invested in we are uniquely placed to advise you if you should hold or sell them.

Lastly as storing a wine professionally to ensure its in peak saleable condition at exit is the main cost of carry, affordable storage that doesn’t cause a drag on your investment is paramount. As such we have teamed with London City Bond, the U.K.s most successful bonded warehousing company, to provide you with industry-leading storage charges of £12 per case of 12 bottles per year inclusive of VAT.

Wine Investment should ultimately be straightforward, low cost, and a great hedge against inflation and with low correlation to financial markets a diversified investment. We provide all of these combined with the best entry price and a low-cost exit, with no yearly management fees, or complicated tier systems based on spend.
