2020 Bordeaux En Primeur: Almost Back to Normal (Jun 2021)

The 2020 Talbot is a hugely promising wine. It offers up an exotic mélange of inky dark fruit, chocolate, licorice, gravel, lavender and menthol. Brooding in the glass, with broad shoulders and tons of intensity, the 2020 is a Talbot that marries power, breadth and savory intensity with notable stylishness and tons of personality. Impressive.

Vingt-Vingt Vins: Bordeaux 2020 (May 2021)

The 2020 Talbot has a fragrant nose with black cherries, bilberry, wild mint and chalk, quite harmonious and gaining intensity in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with a sweet, almost candied opening, predominantly red berry fruit laced with mint and orange zest, and a liberal sprinkling of black pepper. I admire the way this…

2021 Bordeaux: L’Enfant Terrible (Feb 2024)

The 2021 Langoa Barton is a pretty, supple wine that will drink well right out of the gate. Pliant tannins wrap around a core of red/purplish fruit, spice, rose petal, leather and cedar. Bright and perfumed, with lovely balance and fine, classic proportion, the 2021 is pure class.

2+2=5: Bordeaux 2021 In Bottle (Feb 2024)

The 2021 Langoa Barton comes in a specially designed, one-off, hand-drawn label and a sustainable cardboard box instead of wood, to celebrate the bicentenary of family ownership. The aromatics have actually moved up a step since I tasted it from barrel: intense blackberry and wild strawberry fruit, crushed violet and just a hint of eucalyptus….

2017 Burgundy: A Modern Classic (Jan 2019)

The 2017 Nuits Saint-Georges Cuvée Fontaine Jacquinots comes from the lieu-dit of Les Crots. It is usually blended into the Village Cru, but because of the abundant quantity, Grégory Gouges decided to bottle this separately and, for the first time at the domaine, used 50% stems. The bouquet is clean and fresh, crushed stone and…

La Lumière Noire: 2019 Burgundy – Côte de Nuits (Dec 2020)

The 2019 Nuits Saint-Georges Cuvée Fontaine Jacquinots, which contains a small portion of whole bunch, comes from 70- to 80-year-old vines. It has an elegant bouquet of tertiary red fruit laced with tobacco and pain grillé aromas, plus background scents of ash/embers. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins, good depth and touches of Earl…
