Southwold: 2016 Bordeaux Blind (Aug 2020)

The 2016 Pédesclaux has a delineated, focused bouquet of blackberry, cedar and pencil box aromas, displaying a tad more mineralité than its peers. 2016 Bordeaux…It’s All In The Bottle (Jan 2019)

The 2016 Pédesclaux has turned out beautifully. Dark cherry, plum, mocha, leather, chocolate, rose petal and dried herbs are all generous in this plump, juicy Pauillac. Medium in body, expressive and racy, Pédesclaux is a super appealing, modern Pauillac with soft curves and tons of immediacy.

The 2016 Les Pagodes de Cos is super-expressive today. Pliant and inviting, yet also medium in body, the 2016 has much to recommend it. Grilled herb, tobacco, menthol, chocolate, licorice and black cherry are all seamless in this silky, open-knit second wine from Cos d’Estournel. The 2016 is incredibly harmonious, even in the early going.

The 2016 Lagrange (Saint-Julien) is super-expressive today. Soft and supple, the 2016 is quite open, even in the early going. Sweet tobacco, menthol, dried herbs and licorice appear with time in the glass, adding lovely shades of nuance. All the elements fall into place effortlessly. Lagrange is not especially complex, but it is absolutely delicious…

Southwold: 2016 Bordeaux Blind (Aug 2020)

The 2016 Lagrange has a boisterous, almost gregarious bouquet featuring layers of blackberry, boysenberry, violets and cassis scents that storm from the glass. Fortunately, it retains very good precision and delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and a fine bead of acidity. Fresh in the mouth, leading to a minerally finish; a pinch…
