The 2009 Red Burgundies (May 2011)

The 2008 Echezeaux is a noticeable step up in quality from the Vosne-Romanee. This is a decidedly rich, powerful Echezeaux endowed with considerable muscle. The aromas and flavors build beautifully towards a dazzling, harmonious finish. The 2008 is a big Echezeaux that could use further time in the cellar. There is plenty of underlying structure…

Relive the Nightmare! 2008 Red & White Burgundy (Aug 2022)

The 2008 Echézeaux Grand Cru has a well defined nose, brambly red fruit, autumn leaves, touches of loam and soy. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red fruit, tart acidity, black pepper with quite a strict and linear finish. Cohesive, challenging and cerebral, this is an endearing Echézeaux that wears its heart on its sleeve….

Burgundy With A Bit of Age: 2000-2014 (May 2019)

The 2008 Echézeaux Grand Cru is beginning to show signs of maturation, with a little bricking on the rim. It has a leafy bouquet, hints of stewed black tea and damp moss, more advanced than I would have expected after almost a decade. The palate is well balanced with a light tobacco stain on the…

2008 Red Burgundies (Mar 2011)

Good full. red. Expressive, deep aromas and flavors of raspberry, strawberry, smoke and underbrush. Has enough flesh to support its rather firm acid structure. This dry, persistent wine finishes juicy but not tart, with excellent thrust and a subtle saline note emerging on the back.

The 2013 & 2012 Red Burgundies (Apr 2015)

The 2012 Grands-Échézeaux is quite dark and somber in 2012. Powerful tannins give the Grands-Échézeaux much of its verticality and pure power. Dark cherry, plum, spices and a host of mentholated, balsamic notes are woven throughout. The 2012 is built for the long haul, that much is obvious. I wouldn’t plan on opening a bottle…

The 2012 Red Burgundies from Bottle (Mar 2015)

Bright, full red. Aromas of red cherry, raspberry, clove, minerals and flowers are more refined than those of the Echézeaux. More velvety and plush than the Echézeaux but also sappy, minerally and taut, with red berry and spice flavors complicated by floral and saline elements. A very deep Grands-Echézeaux with a powerful structure and a…
