2014 and 2013 Northern Rhône: Great Wines If You Can Find Them (Mar 2016)

(aged in new oak barriques for 42 months): Deep ruby. Sexy mineral- and spice-laced black raspberry, cherry compote and floral pastille aromas are complemented by notes of Asian spices, cola and smoky oak. Spicy and precise on the palate, offering vibrant, spice-accented red and dark berry and cola flavors and an undercurrent of smoky minerality….

Dance the Quickstep: Burgundy 2020 (Dec 2021)

The 2020 Meursault Village comes from three parcels in the appellation. It has a lovely nose, well defined with touches of orange pith, citrus fruit and a touch of white flowers. The palate is lively on the entry, spicier than I was expecting with touches of ginger and lemongrass. Vibrant on the finish with a…

La Lumière Noire: 2019 Burgundy – Côte de Nuits (Dec 2020)

The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Village has a slightly more cohesive bouquet compared to the Clos de Château, featuring wild strawberry and morello cherry, quite gentle and lilting. The palate is medium-bodied with cranberry and light spicy notes on the entry. Darker berry fruit enters toward the finish, and a saline tang lingers on the aftertaste.

Domaine de la Romanée-Conti 2020 & The New Burgundy (Mar 2023)

The 2020 La Tâche Grand Cru is very typically La Tâche. Plum, hoisin, spice and blood orange are all amplified in an explosive, massively backward La Tâche that will need 15-20 years in the cellar to start drinking well. As is so often the case, whole clusters lend an exotic spice quality that is front…
