The Future’s Definitely Not What It Was: Bordeaux 2018 (Mar 2021)

Not only is the 2018 Talbot the first vintage in which Jean-Michel Laporte was fully in charge, but it comes in a uniquely designed bottle to celebrate the centennial of ownership by the Cordier family. Fortunately, its contents make the grade. This Talbot is well defined and focused on the nose, offering blackberry, bilberry and…

Bordeaux 2018: Not Back in Black (Mar 2021)

The 2018 Talbot is quite the powerhouse. Inky and deep, the 2018 possesses striking textural richness from start to finish. Inky dark fruit, licorice, cloves, new leather, menthol, violet and chocolate fill out the layers effortlessly in this decidedly flashy Saint-Julien. This is a terrific effort for Technical Director Jean-Michel Laporte in his first vintage…

Jekyll and Hyde: 2017 Brunello di Montalcino and 2016 Riservas (Dec 2021)

The 2015 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva pulls you close to the glass with a deep and seductive display of black raspberry preserves complemented by sweet sage, dried roses and pipe tobacco. With further coaxing, it gains in volume and lift, taking on hints of mint and camphor. This greets the palate with undeniable elegance, casting…

Dark cherry, tobacco, licorice and sweet herbs flesh out in the Volnay Clos de La Barre, a wine that impresses for its depth, roundness and polish, none of which were easy to achieve in 2011. All the elements fall into place gracefully. The 2011 impresses for its overall balance and pure verve. There is a…

2011 Red Burgundies (Mar 2014)

Bright medium red. Very floral aromas of raspberry, cherry pit, herbs and underbrush. Shows a touch of roundness and sweetness on entry, then turns green and lean in the middle, suggesting fruit of only modest ripeness. A bit thin for a Jadot wine from the Cote de Beaune.

2014 Bordeaux: A September Surprise (Feb 2017)

The 2014 Pape Clément is strikingly beautiful. Dark, sumptuous and creamy, it exudes class. Black cherry, mocha, spice, espresso, menthol and new leather are all pushed forward in a spherical, rich wine that captivates all the senses. As always, this is an overt style, but the purity of the fruit comes through nicely now that…
