Miani: New Releases & More (Mar 2017)

A wine of gravitas and pure power, the 2012 Merlot Buri offers up a heady concoction of black cherry jam, melted road tar, exotic spices, blood orange and graphite. Dark, sumptuous and totally beguiling, the 2012 will thrill readers lucky enough to find it. Time in the glass brings out the wilder and more mineral-drenched…

The 2009 Red Burgundies from Bottle (Apr 2012)

The 2009 Gevrey-Chambertin is pure silk on the palate. Layers of flavor emerge gracefully from this weightless, totally refined wine. A model of understated elegance, the Gevrey makes a great introduction to the wines of Eric Rousseau.

2009 Red Burgundy (Jan 2011)

Medium bright red. Reduced nose offers musky cherry, minerals and spices. Pure but a bit skinny, with red fruit flavors dominating. Finishes with a saline element and a note of black cherry. Left a distinctly medicinal aroma in the empty glass. These vines were picked on September 7 and 8.

Then chewy but precise in the mouth, with youthful flavors of strawberry and raspberry jam complicated by kirsch and peppery spices. High but harmonious…

Squares & Circles: Bordeaux ‘10 At Ten (Apr 2020)

The 2010 Canon has a curious bouquet that feels a little overripe compared to recent successes (of course, this predating the arrival of Nicolas Audebert.) Hints of prune and dates infuse the red and black fruit that slightly detract from the terroir expression. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fine acidity, but it is…

Squares & Circles: Bordeaux ‘10 At Ten (Apr 2020)

The 2010 Canon is a little disappointing on the nose in the context of a strong Right Bank flight. It feels a little loose-knit, lacks the same pixelation as its peers. It almost reminds me of a mature Chambolle-Musigny! The palate is medium-bodied with a slightly minty opening. Matters improve with fine structure, gentle grip…
