Songs Full of Light – Lafaurie-Peyraguey 1906-2018 (Aug 2019)

The 2007 Lafaurie-Peyraguey is one delicious Sauternes. It was picked over seven tries through the vineyard. It bursts from the glass with wild honey, mirabelle, vanilla pod and yellow flower scents displaying impressive intensity and delineation. As I commented with respect to previous bottles, there is Barsac-like personality to the 2007. The very pure palate…

2007 Bordeaux : Don’t Hate Me Because I’m Overpriced (Jul 2010)

Deep ruby-red. The nose shows an almost exotic ripeness but also a high-pitched quality to the aromas of fruitcake, graphite and spicy oak. Dense and intensely flavored but at the same time quite juicy and penetrating, with terrific lift to its dark fruit flavors. An outperformer for the vintage, this rather powerfully structured wine has…

2006, 2005 and 2004 Bordeaux (May 2007)

Ruby-red. Restrained aromas of currant, violet and leather, with a truffley quality emerging with aeration. This is sweet and old-viney in texture but a bit youthfully unyielding and locked up today. Finishes with firm tannins and very good aromatic persistence. The first vintage made under the direction of Stephane Derenoncourt.

The Top Clarets of 2006 (May 2009)

Full ruby. Vibrant aromas of crushed blueberry and bitter chocolate are further brightened by a violet quality. Dense, sweet and lush, with terrific depth and freshness to its dark fruit, mineral and violet flavors. This is really creamy-rich for the vintage. Finishes with smooth, chocolatey tannins and outstanding palate-saturating length. It’s hard to imagine how…

2007 Bordeaux : Don’t Hate Me Because I’m Overpriced (Jul 2010)

Good deep ruby. Blackberry, minerals, violet pastille, licorice and pepper on the nose, along with a rocky quality characteristic of this calcaire-rich site. Juicy and very intense but youthfully imploded, with a restrained sweetness and terrific precision and grip to the mineral and crushed cassis flavors. Finishes firmly tannic and very long, with terrific energy….

Bordeaux 2010: All That Glitters… (May 2011)

(65% cabernet sauvignon, 30% merlot, 4% cabernet franc and 1% petit verdot) Bright ruby. Knockout nose of cassis, black pepper, minerals and cedar just screams Pauillac. Enters the mouth sweet, creamy and pure, displaying very rich, dense flavors of black fruit, minerals and dried herbs, with lively, integrated acidity keeping the wine from coming across…
