1998 and 1997 Red Burgundies (Mar 2000)

Medium red. Complex aromas of currant, mocha, clove, dark chocolate, rose petal and marzipan. Substantial and solidly structured; serious and nicely delineated. Finishes with wonderfully smooth tannins for a young Bonnes-Mares. But can’t match the (Chambolle-Musigny) Amoureuses for precision or class.

In a Tuscan State of Mind (Aug 2013)

The 2011 Chianti Classico Querciabella has that extra bit of depth, creaminess and mid-palate pliancy missing in the 2010, all while maintaining plenty of brightness, freshness and Sangiovese character. Freshly cut roses, sweet red berries and a hint of spices are woven into the exceptionally elegant, refined finish. Simply put, this is a striking wine…

2014 Barolo: Late Releases (Nov 2018)

The 2014 Barolo Prapò is delicate, aromatic and nuanced, and yet also shows quite a bit of Serralunga muscles. Sage, mint, tobacco, rose petal and blood orange give the 2014 much of its beguiling personality. Dark and inviting, the 2014 has much to offer. I can’t wait to taste this wine in a more normal…

New Releases from the Tuscan Coast (Jan 2021)

The 2017 Redigaffi (100% Merlot) is a classic Tua Rita wine. Rich, dense and explosive, the 2017 captures all of the natural exuberance that comes so easily in this southern part of the Tuscan coast. Inky dark fruit, chocolate, spice, new leather and spice abound. Although the 2017 is quite potent, it is also not…

Central Tuscany: Maremma, Montepulciano and Beyond (Mar 2019)

The 2016 Redigaffi is another absolutely compelling wine in this range. Explosive and opulent, the 2016 manages to be both spectacularly rich and yet also retain tremendous freshness. Blueberry jam, lavender, crushed rocks and sweet oak all build as this sumptuous yet structured Merlot shows off its considerable personality. In 2016, Redigaffi is energetic, persistent…

Barbaresco – Out of the Shadows: The 2016s & 2015s (Oct 2018)

The 2015 Barbaresco Costa Russi is once again striking in 2015. Vertical and lifted, with tremendous energy, the 2015 has so much to offer. Once the most easygoing of the three Barbaresco crus, Costa Russi has inched up in quality in recent years. The 2015 shows the suave mid-palate and raciness that is so typical…
