Omne Trium Perfectum: Bordeaux 2019s in Bottle (Feb 2022)

The 2019 La Fleur-Pétrus has an entrancing bouquet that demands your attention, delivering a mixture of red and black fruit, licorice, fresh fig and potpourri. The oak here is beautifully integrated. The palate is very harmonious, with ripe, succulent tannins that frame the concentrated black cherry and red plum fruit, and a dash of white…

2017 Bordeaux – Mirror, Mirror on The Wall… (Mar 2020)

The 2017 Figeac is outrageously beautiful. Rich, deep and ample, the 2017 soars out of the glass with vertical intensity and explosive power. The flavors are just pulsing with energy. Time in the glass brings out a captivating range of lavender, spice, mint and rose petal overtones. The 2017 Figeac is a towering achievement from…

Vintage Seeks Home: Bordeaux 2017 In Bottle (Jan 2020)

The 2017 Figeac was picked from 5 September until 3 October according to winemaker Frédéric Faye. It has a dense blackcurrant and raspberry scented bouquet with touches of mint and potpourri developing with aeration. This has very fine definition. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannins, superb density and very fresh. A vibrant, minty…

2019 Bordeaux from Bottle: The Two Towers (Feb 2022)

The 2019 Durfort-Vivens has fleshed out nicely. Silky, red/purplish fruit, blood orange and pomegranate give this plush Margaux fabulous depth. Time in the glass brings out very pretty floral accents to round things out. This classy Margaux is elegant, nuanced and polished. It's a terrific effort from Gonzague Lurton.

Omne Trium Perfectum: Bordeaux 2019s in Bottle (Feb 2022)

The 2019 Durfort-Vivens was matured two-thirds in new oak barrels and one-third in amphorae. The plush nose of blueberry and violet scents is very Margaux in style, though much tighter than I was anticipating. The poised palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, and quite delineated toward the the finish, which shows more mineralité than previous…

Bordeaux 2019: The Southwold Tasting (Feb 2023)

The 2019 Domaine de Chevalier has a precise and complex bouquet with blackberry, cedar and tobacco scents, quite Médoc-like in style. This is thoroughly engaging. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, exquisitely integrated oak, fleshy and fine-boned with a precise finish. This is outstanding. Tasted blind at the Southwold annual tasting.
