2006, 2005 and 2004 Bordeaux (May 2007)

Deep red. Aromas of cherry, espresso and mellow smoky oak. Round but on the dry side, showing less flavor intensity in the middle than the 2006. A wine of moderate ripeness and punch. Today the tannins cut off the wine’s fruit. Perhaps in an awkward stage.

2012 Red Burgundies (Jan 2014)

(Maume labeled this wine Charmes-Chambertin; 50% vendange entier; 100% new oak; 13% natural alcohol chaptalized to 13.2%): Bright, deep red. Very ripe purple fruit aromas accented by an element of fresh herbs. Large-scaled, sweet and mouthfilling; big and rich but not yet shapely, with some baby fat to lose. Lush redcurrant, cherry and underbrush flavors…

The Annual Red Bordeaux Report (May 2006)

Full bright ruby. Cool aromas of blackberry, kirsch, licorice and fresh herbs; slightly inky. Moderately dense and juicy, with medicinal black cherry and herbal flavors that are a bit dominated by the wine’s structure today. Finishes with reasonably ripe tannins and good length, but shows a hint of dryness.

Looking Back: 2007 Sauternes (Oct 2022)

The 2007 Sigalas Rabaud has a very refined and pure bouquet with quince, orange blossom and yellow flower scents opening beautifully in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with a killer line of acidity, taut and fresh with very pure fruit. This is a complex, sophisticated Sauternes that has more freshness and tension than many…

2007 and 2005 Sauternes and Barsacs (Jul 2008)

Full yellow-gold. Deep, brooding aromas of ripe peach and honey. A sweet, peachy fruit bomb with a superb balance of sugar, acidity and alcohol. Still subdued on the back but wonderfully sappy, spicy and long. The most promising wine for this chateau since the superb 2001.

2004 and 2003 Sauternes and Barsacs (Jul 2006)

Good yellow-gold. Very ripe, almost tokaj-like aromas of honey, toffee and coffee. Concentrated, pure and quite sweet, with high-toned, slightly medicinal flavors of nectarine, lemon peel and spicy oak.
