2002 and 2001 Red Burgundies (Mar 2004)

Deep red. High-pitched aromas of cassis, blackberry, violet and bitter chocolate; much blacker in character than the Porrets Saint-Georges and Nuits villages Rich, dense and sweet; impressively large-scaled for the vintage but with delicacy and definition. Intriguing notes of mint and chocolate. Seriously structured wine with excellent verve. The rather suave tannins reach the front…

Focus on California’s North Coast (May 2007)

Good dark red-ruby. Distinctly rocky, mineral-driven aromas of redcurrant and leather. Juicy, suave and delineated, with lovely acid spine and a strong spice character. Not a dense or fleshy wine (fans of sheer size may be underwhelmed) but nicely balanced, pure and long on personality. Finishes with dusty, broad tannins and lovely finesse.

1997 and 1996 Red Burgundies (Mar 1999)

Deep red. Complex, fresh aromas of black cherry, raspberry, smoke, spice and licorice. Firm, intensely flavored and strong in extract. Strong acidity carries the slightly floral fruit through the very long, firm finish.

Dark ruby color. Huge bouquet of smoky, almost jammy blackberry and black cherry liqueur and cured meat, with intriguing suggestions of dried rose and violet. Fresh and silky, with medium weight and vibrant red and dark berry flavors that expand and sweeten with air. Finishes with terrific energy and lift, picking up some fruity black…

Focus on Barolo and Barbaresco (Nov 2000)

Medium red. Very typical aromas of dried rose and roasted red fruits; faint suggestion of raisin. Flavors of tar and underbrush are juicy, delineated and penetrating. Finishes with strong but harmonious tannins and very good length. Very good basic Barolo, in need of at least a couple years of bottle aging.

Oregon: An Embarrassment of Riches and Richness (Jun 2019)

Vivid red. Incisive aromas of fresh red berries, cherry liqueur, succulent herbs and a hint of exotic spices on the highly perfumed nose. Offers chewy, palate-staining red/blue fruit, and blood orange. Spicecake flavors pick up floral pastille and licorice notes with aeration. Shows impressive depth of flavor, with no excess weight, and finishes impressively long,…
