2016 Bordeaux…It’s All In The Bottle (Jan 2019)

The 2016 La Tour Figeac offers good fruit intensity and depth. Readers should plan on giving it a few years in bottle, as the tannins are a bit coarse today. Red cherry, plum, espresso and floral notes add complexity throughout. Even so, the tannins retain a toughness that is not likely to ever fully disappear.

The 2010 Clarets: A Modern Classic (Jul 2013)

Good red-ruby color. Blackberry, bitter chocolate, licorice and violet on the aromatic nose, plus a high-toned whiff of band-aid. Then dense but dry in the mouth, with blackberry and redcurrant fruit flavors showing a faint leathery, animal character. There’s good ripeness in the mid-palate but the slightly drying tannins give the finish an edgy quality.

Bordeaux 2010: All That Glitters… (May 2011)

(85% cabernet sauvignon, 13% merlot and 2% petit verdot) Deep purple. Fragrant aromas of red cherry, blackcurrant and flowers. Supple, silky and sweet, offering good density and an attractive balance to its red fruit and mineral flavors. Finishes smoothly tannic, with sneaky concentration. I was very impressed by this Rauzan-Gassies, and I think it will…

The 2009 Clarets (Jul 2012)

Medium red-ruby. Musky black fruits, Christmas spices, cedar and tobacco leaf on the nose. Spicy and classically dry, with dark berry flavors complicated by herbs and menthol. Good intensity and length. The wine’s substantial dusty tannins will require at least several years in bottle to soften.

Bordeaux 2009: The Best Ever? (May 2010)

Inky purple. Initially closed nose opens with air to show aromas of black plum, coffee, dried herbs and spicy minerals. Smooth, dense and suave, with a restrained sweetness; hints of flint, truffle and smoke add interest to the black fruit flavors. Finishes dense, thick and serious, with smooth tannins and noteworthy length. This represents a…

A Test Of Greatness: 2009 Bordeaux Ten Years On (March 2019)

The 2009 Rauzan-Gassies has a refined bouquet with blackberry, cedar and light graphite notes, maybe a little closed down though, it opens nicely in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, and fine acidity. Chewy with plenty of blackberry and bilberry fruit laced with sea salt and brine towards the finish. Give it…
