2001 and 2000 Red Burgundies (Mar 2003)

Medium red. Wild aromas of raspberry, game and coffee. Dense and very ripe but sappy, with juicy, nicely delineated flavors of raspberry, mocha and spices. Rather backward today, with a suggestion of medicinal austerity. Finishes firm, dry and quite suave.

2017 Bordeaux – Mirror, Mirror on The Wall… (Mar 2020)

Just as it was from barrel, the 2017 Carruades de Lafite is ample and rich on the palate. Succulent dark cherry, lavender, spice and plum all fill out the wine's frame effortlessly. In 2017, Carruades is especially resonant and creamy, with notable richness and volume. I expect the 2017 will drink well with just a…

Vintage Seeks Home: Bordeaux 2017 In Bottle (Jan 2020)

The 2017 Carruades de Lafite has a pleasant bouquet with brambly black fruit intermingling with damp earth and light tobacco aromas. Maybe it would benefit from a little more precision. The palate is well balanced with a saline tang on the entry. This is a little “chunky” at the moment, maybe missing the finesse of…

Henschke’s Hill of Grace – The Garden of Eden (Apr 2023)

The 2016 Shiraz Hill of Grace is a hearty release showing the season’s generosity as it ripples with powerful blackberry, mulberry, chocolate and licorice aromas, plus more savory touches of graphite. Mouth-filling and packed with dark berry flavors, it delivers an impressive impact of sweet fleshy flavors with a tarry edge. The finish is chewy…

Vinous Lockdown Special (Oct 2020)

Suave, silky and expressive, the 2015 Corton Grand Cru is a standout. Silky tannins wrap around a core of ripe red cherry/plum fruit, with pretty floral, hard candy, and spice overtones that develop with a bit of time in the glass. Naturally, the 2015 is very, very young. But it is a gorgeous Burgundy that…

Blind Vision: 2015 Burgundy Red & White (Nov 2018)

The 2015 Corton Grand Cru has a very clean, pure bouquet, the bright, vivacious dark cherry fruit mingling with strawberry and crushed stone. The palate is medium-bodied but it feels hollow on the midpalate, and the finish is rather undernourished. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.
