Elegance and Power: The 2010 White Burgundies (Aug 2012)

The 2010 Meursault is a serious wine at the village level. It boasts considerable depth, density and richness from start to finish. White stone fruits, crushed rocks and flowers are all layered into the pointed yet textured finish. The Meursault is utterly vivid in the glass. It is another drop-dead gorgeous wine that overachieves its…

2005 and 2004 Red Burgundies (Mar 2007)

Ruby-red. Superripe musky raspberry complicated by flint and smoke. Fat, sweet and complex, with a compelling sappiness to the red fruit and smoke flavors. Finishes sweet and impressively long, with solid minerality. This cool marl and limestone soil, which Laurent said resembles Chambertin, is favored in the warmer years, and in 2005 it punches above…

2002 and 2001 Red Burgundies (Mar 2004)

Deep ruby-red. Ripe aromas of black raspberry, game, minerals and bitter chocolate. Sweet, vibrant flavors of black cherry and licorice. Finishes with broad, dusty tannins and very good length. A sample from a second, used barrel, which finished its malolactic fermentation later, showed blackberry and tar notes and a bit more flesh.

2006 and 2005 Red Burgundies (Mar 2008)

Bright, deep red. Raspberry, iodine, smoke and earth on the musky, slightly reduced nose. Chewy, dense and stuffed with sweet material but without any impression of weight. Finishes with palate-staining intensity and a captivating truffley nuance. A classic and classy Vosne-Romanee with grand cru length and thrust.

Blind Vision: 2015 Burgundy Red & White (Nov 2018)

The 2015 Chambertin Clos-de-Bèze Grand Cru is rather reduced and smudged on the nose, possibly with some TCA. The palate is very animally and quite bretty, to the extent that it suppresses the fruit. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

Red Burgundy ’16 & ’15: Superb Vintages, Different Styles (Jan 2018)

Bright, full red. Ineffable aromas of raspberry, rose petal and minerals display wonderful perfumed lift for the year. Silky, concentrated and fine-grained on entry, then sharply delineated and perfumed in the middle palate, boasting superb floral lift and an impression of menthol reserve to its black raspberry, crushed stone and botanical herb flavors. A wonderfully…
