Bryant’s Cabernet Sauvignon: 1994-2014 (May 2017)

(15.7% alcohol): Bright medium ruby. Distinctly candied, liqueur-like scents of dark berry pastille, licorice and violet; barely showing secondary scents today. Silky, hedonistic wine with incredible grain and depth and a compellingly sappy quality to its powerful berry fruit. An incredible fruit bomb with huge dusty tannins and outstanding rising length. Horizontal Tasting of Napa Valley’s 2004 Cabernets (Jun 2015)

(15.6% alcohol): Good deep red. Rather exotic nose combines scents of hard candy, wild sage, iron, burning embers, cayenne and tangerine; more red than black in character.Lush, seamless and sweet in the mouth but not as deep as the Cariad. Finishes broad and a bit soft, with substantial dusty tannins.

Rather muscular on the attack, then dense, lush and highly concentrated in the middle, with a deep core of dark fruit and bitter chocolate flavors. In comparison to the Insignia,…

Focus on California (May 2001)

Saturated dark ruby. Aromas of black fruits, bitter chocolate, caramel and nutty, charred oak. Amazingly lush and silky for the year, with ripe flavors of black cherry, black raspberry and licorice. Can’t match the ’97, or the ’99, for sheer density but this is bright, concentrated, suave and very long. Tannins are even and fine….
