Châteauneuf-du-Pape New Releases: Welcome to the Pleasuredome (Jun 2023)

The 2020 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc Magis is a total stunner, unwinding with crushed flowers, white peach, vanilla, yellow apple, lemon flesh and toasty elements. Offering a vertical sensation on the full-bodied palate, the 2020 packs outstanding intensity and focus. A deliciously saline note accompanies the complex finish.

2019 Barolo: Back on Track (Jan 2023)

The 2019 Barolo Le Coste di Monforte is a gorgeous, exotic, intriguing wine. Dried flowers, mint, lavender, spice, tobacco and incense are all beautifully delineated. Ample and vibrant, with tons of depth, the 2019 is absolutely compelling today. The 2019 offers tons of Le Coste power, and a good deal of finesse as well.

2015 Barolo – The Late Releases (Nov 2019)

The 2015 Barolo Coste & Bricco is another potent wine in this range from Matteo Ascheri. Black cherry, licorice, tar, rose petal, mint and dried herbs all develop in the glass. Medium in body, but tightly wound, the Coste & Bricco needs time to unwind, but it is promising. Even when it does soften, though,…

Dance the Quickstep: Burgundy 2020 (Dec 2021)

The 2020 Volnay Clos du Château des Ducs 1er Cru has been de-stemmed by hand since 2016. It has another very mineral-driven bouquet that unfolds marvellously, black cherry and bilberry, crushed rock and sea spray aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannins, a lovely symmetry here, well judged acidity, poised and very persistent…

2016 Barolo, Part 2 & Late Releases (Oct 2020)

The 2016 Barolo Sorano is powerful and dark, but also a bit rustic. I am not sure there is enough fruit to stand up to ferocious Serralunga tannins. Dried herbs, mint, sage, lavender and cloves emerge over time. I wish there was a bit more depth here.

Dance the Quickstep: Burgundy 2020 (Dec 2021)

The 2020 Volnay Clos des Chênes 1er Cru has (yet another) beautifully defined bouquet with black cherries, briary, crushed stone and pressed iris petals, unfolding with each swirl of the glass. You could nose this all day! The palate is medium-bodied with a slightly sappy entry, quite dense, grippy and voluminous, tapering slightly towards a…
