Washington: Various Shades of Hot (Oct 2017)

Bright red-ruby; not hugely saturated. Alluring, high-toned aromas of cassis, boysenberry and gingerbread spices. Suave and fine-grained, offering a lovely balance of sweetness of berry fruit and harmonious acidity; uncommonly complex, as the ripeness ranges from lightly herbal to nearly overripe without crossing either line. This plush, broad wine really vibrates on the long, subtle,…

2016 Barolo, Part 2 & Late Releases (Oct 2020)

The 2016 Barolo Coste & Bricco is dark and ample in the glass. There is quite a bit of depth to the blue/purplish fruit. Lavender, spice, menthol, tar and licorice add brooding intensity. Muscular tannins add to the wine’s heft, but there is enough fruit to balance things out nicely.

Further Inroads Into Burgundy 2020 (May 2022)

The 2020 Chambertin Clos-de-Bèze Grand Cru has a very elegant bouquet with Earl Grey tinged red fruit. Wonderful composure here and very focused. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, vibrant and fresh with a dash of black pepper towards the finish. This is superb.

2019 Barolo: Back on Track (Jan 2023)

The 2019 Barolo Monvigliero exudes depth and character. Like all of these Barolos, the 2019 is quite austere in the early going. 2019 Barolo: Back on Track (Jan 2023)

The 2019 Barolo is a generous, dense entry-level offering from Matteo Ascheri. Succulent red cherry, pomegranate, spice and cedar are nicely amplified in this fruity, racy young Barolo.

2019 Barolo: Back on Track (Jan 2023)

The 2019 Barolo Ascheri is redolent of kirsch, blood orange, cinnamon, star anise and incense. Aromatic and pliant, with terrific depth, the 2019 is also quite complete in its profile. This is very nicely balanced. Give it a year or two in bottle to soften.
