The Margaux Paragon: Rauzan-Ségla 1900-2015 (Apr 2019)

The 1999 Rauzan-Ségla is a modest success for the vintage. The bouquet offers raspberry, sage and light mint aromas, simple and perhaps less ambitious than the 1998. The palate is well balanced and quite firm and stocky, not a Margaux with finesse but showing decent length. I doubt that it will improve with further bottle…

2001, 2000 and 1999 Bordeaux (May 2002)

Medium red. Slightly dusty aromas of redcurrant, plum, tobacco, cedar and iris. Sweet on entry, then less ripe and deep in the mouth than the subsequent vintages. Some edgy acidity leads to a hint of dryness on the end. Rather awkward today, but finishes with good length.

2017 Bordeaux – Mirror, Mirror on The Wall… (Mar 2020)

The 2017 Rauzan-Ségla is coming together very nicely. Soft and silky, the 2017 is a wine of pure and total finesse. Sweet red cherry and plum fruit, tobacco, cedar and licorice add pretty top notes, but more than anything else, the 2017 impresses with its statuesque elegance and total balance; nothing in particular stands out….

Vintage Seeks Home: Bordeaux 2017 In Bottle (Jan 2020)

The 2017 Rauzan-Ségla was bottled at the end of May 2019 according to winemaker Nicolas Audebert. It has a broodier nose than expected, perhaps a tad closed after bottling, but there is certainly sufficient blackberry and raspberry fruit, subtle pressed violet, soupçon of shucked oyster shell scents emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with…

2005 Bordeaux: Here and Now (Apr 2021)

The 2005 Rauzan-Ségla is captivating right from the very first taste. Soaring aromatics and bright veins of minerality confer energy to this statuesque Margaux. The 2005 is still a very young wine. In fact, I would cellar it for a few years. I am blown away by its energy, vibrant and sheer character. Bright red-toned…

Vinous Table: Sorrel, Dorking, United Kingdom (Jul 2020)

We moved back to classic territory for the final wine that I bought myself, the failsafe 2005 Rauzan-Ségla. Having reviewed this wine recently, I have little to add. The aromatics are more generous than other Left Bank 2005s at the moment, delivering plush black plummy fruit, cedar and mint, this bottle perhaps demonstrating a touch…
