2002 and 2001 Red Burgundies (Mar 2004)

Good red-ruby. Sappy, youthfully tight aromas of blackberry, raspberry, minerals and mint, lifted by a peppery quality. Juicy and tightly wound; much less silky and fat today than the Musigny. Notes of black pepper, minerals and mint. In an awkward stage today and very difficult to taste. From vines planted in 1985 and 1980.

2003 and 2002 Red Burgundies (Mar 2005)

Bright full red. Deeply pitched aromas of red berries, red cherry, coffee, tobacco and truffley underbrush. Quite closed today, with primary fruit in a suppressed stage. An edge of acidity carries through to the slightly drying finish, but the tannins are on the light side.

The 2019 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru is mixture of estate and contracted fruit – about two-thirds and one-third, respectively. 2003 and 2002 Red Burgundies (Mar 2005)

Full medium red. Deep, brooding aromas of strawberry, leather, smoky oak and underbrush. Solid but sullen today; comes across as almost chunky following the Clos de Vougeot and Grands-Echezeaux. A bit disjointed today, owing to its edgy acidity and dusty tannins. This wine’s elements will need time to harmonize.

1998 and 1997 Red Burgundies (Mar 2000)

Medium red. Complex aromas of currant, mocha, clove, dark chocolate, rose petal and marzipan. Substantial and solidly structured; serious and nicely delineated. Finishes with wonderfully smooth tannins for a young Bonnes-Mares. But can’t match the (Chambolle-Musigny) Amoureuses for precision or class.
