Focus on Champagne (Nov 2002)

Pale, green-tinged color. Incredible shiver-producing 99-point nose combines peach, lemon, iodine and steely, petrolly, slatey soil tones; I was reminded of Chevalier-Montrachet and great Mosel riesling. Full and creamy-smooth but extremely young. This brilliantly minerally wine seems to thicken and intensify after 10 or 15 seconds in the mouth, offering layer upon layer of soil…

The Annual Red Bordeaux Report (May 2005)

Red-ruby. Berries, mint and some fresh herbal notes on the nose. Nicely sweet on entry, then moderately fleshy in the middle palate, with flavors of blackberry and bitter chocolate. Finishes with palate-dusting tannins.

A Century of Bordeaux: The Nines (Sep 2019)

The 1999 Les Forts de Latour was cropped at 38hl/ha. It is noticeably deep in color with just faint signs of bricking on the rim. It offers an impressive array of aromas: raspberry preserve, wild strawberry, cedar and light tobacco scents, probably more intense than I would anticipate after 20 years. The palate is medium-bodied…

2001, 2000 and 1999 Bordeaux (May 2002)

Full deep red. Aromas of redcurrant, cedar and licorice. Lush, sweet and harmonious; boasts the round, silky texture of the better ’99s. Finishes with lush tannins and excellent length. Very successful for the year.

2006, 2005 and 2004 Bordeaux (May 2007)

Good full, dark red. Sexy aromas of redcurrant, smoked meat, minerals and tobacco. Suave on entry, then fine-grained and bright in the middle palate, with silky flavors of plum, truffle and game complemented by a lightly herbal element. This spreads out nicely to coat the palate on the back end. This has turned out well.

2nd Annual Barolo and White Truffle Charity Dinner (Dec 2008)

Two jeroboams of Bollinger’s famed R.D. kicked off the evening in grand style. The big bottles were quite a sight, and both wines were simply beautiful. The 1981 was a very delicate, soft R.D., while the 1973 was noticeably more fresh and vibrant.
