Bordeaux ’08: Far Better Than Expected (May 2009)

Medium-deep ruby. Perfumed aromas of redcurrant, coffee liqueur and milk chocolate. Bright and fresh on entry, offering ripe flavors of smoky plum and balsamic vinegar. Finishes with lovely polished tannins and excellent persistence.

2008 and 2007 Rhone Valley Wines (Jan 2010)

Ruby-red. Pungent, deep aromas of red berry preserves and kirsch, with notes of smoky Indian spices and minerals adding complexity. Broad, liqueur-like red fruit flavors coat the palate and show a distinctly warm, slightly roasted character, with gentle back-end lift. Finishes sweet and impressively persistent, with repeating smoke and spice notes. This rich, serious wine…

Bordeaux ’08: Far Better Than Expected (May 2009)

(42% merlot, 40% cabernet sauvignon and 18% cabernet franc; 8.7% press wine added; 13.2 % alcohol; 30% new oak) Deep ruby-violet. Explosive aromas of violet, ripe red cherry and spicy blackcurrant. Less massive on the palate than the nose would suggest, offering rich and attractive black cherry and blackberry syrup flavors and excellent balance. The…

2004 and 2003 Rhone Valley Wines (Jan 2006)

Deep, dense red color. Vibrant aromas of aromas of cherry, wild herbs, fresh flowers and minerals. Energetic and sweet, showing no overripe qualities; offers a silky, suave texture and wonderfully pure red berry, fresh plum, kirsch and fig flavors. Those with an aversion to the funky, gamey character that can characterize Beaucastel in typical vintages…

2001 and 2000 Rhone Valley Wines (Jan 2003)

Very good deep red-ruby. Roasted plum and black fruit aromas, with notes of violet, dark chocolate, smoke and game. Fat, lush and superripe; shows more of a roasted character than the 2001, but also boasts solid acidity. A huge, full-blown wine with exotic notes of roasted herbs. Finishes with big, dusty tannins and excellent length.
