The 2013 and 2012 Northern Rhône Wines (Feb 2015)

(one-third new oak): Light yellow. Pungent aromas of pear skin, mango and lime pith, plus a suave floral overtone. Penetrating, sharply focused citrus and pit fruit flavors gain depth, spiciness and a touch of honey with air. Dry, penetrating and minerally on the persistent finish, which leaves violet and bitter pear skin notes behind.

Very ripe and plush but dry in the mouth, offering a fine-grained texture and good depth to its raspberry, licorice, menthol and spice flavors. I’d give this wine a couple years…

Light bright yellow. Expansive orchard and pit fruit aromas show good clarity, and a sexy floral element emerges slowly. Sappy, palate-coating pear nectar and nectarine flavors are complicated by notes of honey and candied ginger, while a gingery element adds spicy lift. The pear note returns on the finish, which hangs on with very good…
