The Best New Cotes du Rhone Releases (Apr 2014)

(a 50/50 blend of grenache and syrah): Inky ruby. Smoke- and black pepper-accented dark berries and violet on the fragrant nose and in the mouth; really showing its syrah today. Silky and intensely fruity on the finish, leaving notes of candied flowers and spicecake behind. The marriage of power and finesse here is quite striking.

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Reds: The Flamboyant 2014s and the Structured 2013s (Apr 2016)

Bright ruby-red. An expansive bouquet displays scents of lively red fruits, pungent flowers and incense, and a smoky mineral nuance builds in the glass. Clear, palate-staining raspberry and bitter cherry flavors show strong, spicy cut and mineral lift. The red fruit quality carries through an impressively long, focused finish framed by smooth tannins.

Squares & Circles: Bordeaux ‘10 At Ten (Apr 2020)

The 2010 Bouscaut has a gentle bouquet that opens with blackberry, raspberry, orange zest and light floral aromas. So pretty! The palate is medium-bodied with light tannins, a fine bead of acidity, quite savoury in style with a well defined finish that does not outstay its welcome. Tasted blind at Farr Vintners 10-Year On Bordeaux…

The 2010 Clarets: A Modern Classic (Jul 2013)

Good dark red. Brooding aromas of black raspberry, plum and menthol. Then surprisingly suave and fine-grained in the mouth, with noteworthy energy to the intense dark fruit flavors. Spreads out nicely on the spicy back end.

Bordeaux 2010: All That Glitters… (May 2011)

(55% merlot, 40% cabernet sauvignon and 5% malbec) Dark ruby-purple. Oaky nose offers aromas of red cherry pie and blackberry. Supple, sweet and suave, and brighter and fresher on the palate than the nose suggests, with clean flavors of blueberry, coffee and minerals. Finishes with good length and youthfully chewy tannins. Potentially the best Bouscaut…

The Annual Red Bordeaux Report (May 2003)

(the same 65/35 blend of cabernet sauvignon and merlot as the young 2002) Good ruby-red. Complex nose melds minerals, game, mocha, animal fur and truffle. Sweet and broad in the mouth, with very ripe notes of game and animal fur. Very rich, velvety wine, even if it is currently showing more texture than flavor. Tannins…
