Bordeaux ’08: Far Better Than Expected (May 2009)

(65% cabernet sauvignon, 30% merlot, 4% cabernet franc and 1% petit verdot; the estate-wide yield here was 44 hl/ha) the very early harvest date of September 29 for the merlot (October 15 for the cabernet sauvignon) suggests that the estate might have pulled the trigger a little too quickly here, especially in what is one…

The 2008 Clarets (Jul 2011)

Bright ruby-red. Fresh black fruits and licorice on the nose. Juicy and penetrating, with excellent focus and purity to the flavors of blueberry, blackberry and minerals. Tightly wound and very firm on the aftertaste, with suave tannins and excellent length. An excellent Montrose with a modern touch.

Very appealing sweet black and red fruit flavors on the palate; shows a stiffer tannic spine than Haut Batailley from the same owner, but the tannins are also smoother and riper….

2008 Bordeaux: A Day In A Life (Feb 2018)

The 2008 Grand Puy Lacoste has a very expressive bouquet with blackberry, cedar and graphite notes, quintessentially Pauillac, building in intensity all the time in the glass but remaining correct. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin on the entry, more red fruit here than black, good density with a fine bead of acidity. This…
