2016 Chianti Classico – A Modern Day Benchmark (Aug 2019)

Once again, the 2015 Tignanello is stunning. Sweet, floral notes give the 2015 striking aromatic intensity to play off a core of red Sangiovese fruit. In 2015, the Sangiovese is a bit higher than the norm, which comes through in the wine’s flavor profile. The tannins are also a bit biting at this stage, but…

The Vast Bounty of Central Spain (Feb 2021)

Deep, shimmering ruby. An intensely perfumed bouquet evokes ripe black and blue fruits, vanilla, pipe tobacco, exotic spices, cola and potpourri. Deeply concentrated and energetic on the palate, offering smoke-laced black currant, cherry liqueur, spicecake and mocha flavors that display outstanding clarity and pick up a candied violet nuance on the back half. Polished, steadily…

2007 and 2006 Red Burgundies (Mar 2009)

Good full red. Pure, fresh aromas of dark cherry, licorice and minerals. Juicy, sweet and penetrating, with a medicinal reserve calling for six or seven years of patience. Finishes with dusty, serious but well-integrated tannins.

2005 and 2004 Red Burgundies (Mar 2007)

(these 2004s were bottled in April of 2006) Moderately saturated medium red. Cherry and earth on the nose. Dry, clean and inviting, with an edge of acidity giving precision to the flavors of blackberry, licorice and mint. Firmly structured wine, finishing with grainy tannins and very good intensity and length.

Bordeaux ’08: Far Better Than Expected (May 2009)

Opaque deep ruby. Candied violet, chocolate-covered dried blueberry and plum on the nose. Lovely balance to the fresh blackberry and blueberry flavors, with lively acidity extending the finish. There’s sneaky concentration to this very well-made, graceful midweight, which should develop nicely and resolve some of its still-chalky tannins. An excellent vintage for Langoa.

The 2008 Clarets (Jul 2011)

Bright ruby. Aromas of cassis, fresh herbs and pepper. Juicy, spicy and a bit herbal, with good mid-palate energy and lift. A rather supple style but the slight greenness gives the finish a youthful dry edge.
