2007, 2006 and 2005 Bordeaux (May 2008)

Bright, deep red. Expressive, full-blown aromas of currant, coffee and mocha. Sweet, round and ripe, with sexy flavors of ripe berries and licorice. Quite full for Margaux, and finishing with sweet tannins and lovely lingering fruit.

The 2009 Clarets (Jul 2012)

Deep red-ruby. Perfumed aromas of black raspberry, licorice and minerals. Sweet, rich and suave, with sound acidity and a lightly herbal character intensifying its seamless dark berry flavors. Not hugely deep or nuanced but delivers a lot of flavor and finishes with ripe, dusty tannins that will not get in the way of tasting this…

A Test Of Greatness: 2009 Bordeaux Ten Years On (March 2019)

The 2009 Clos du Marquis is tightly wound on the nose, gradually unfurling to reveal blackberry pastilles, boysenberry, pencil shaving and subtle mint aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, good weight in the mouth, and crisp acidity. Fresh and vibrant with a gentle grip on the finish that perhaps would benefit from more…

The 2005 Branaire-Ducru is a gorgeous, super-expressive wine that captures all of the natural radiance of the year. Black cherry, leather, spice, cedar, tobacco and scorched earth envelop the palate, framed by silky tannins that give this supple Saint-Julien so much charm. The 2005 is a very easy wine to drink and enjoy today, but…

In Good Taste: Branaire-Ducru 1928-2013 (Mar 2020)

The 2005 Branaire-Ducru is a vintage tasted many times. It unceasingly offers a ripe bouquet in the context of this Saint-Julien with red berry fruit tinged with cedar and sous-bois. More approachable than its peers, it is an expressive 2005. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, well balanced with a stocky, almost burly cedar-infused…
