A Test Of Greatness: 2009 Bordeaux Ten Years On (March 2019)

The 2009 Chasse-Spleen has a simple, earthy bouquet, a little dustiness at first although that soon dissipates with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly soft tannin on the entry, moderate depth, well-judged acidity with a sandalwood and tobacco infused finish that has a spring in its step. A very fine for Chasse-Spleen, although not…

The 2009 Clarets (Jul 2012)

Bright, moderately saturated red-ruby. Raspberry and licorice aromas and flavors are lifted by a violet topnote. Juicy and nicely ripe, with harmonious acidity energizing this medium-bodied wine. Finishes with firm tannins, a note of fresh herbs and good length, turning a bit dry as it opened in the glass.

The Best New Cotes du Rhone Releases (Apr 2014)

(a 50/50 blend of grenache and syrah): Inky ruby. Smoke- and black pepper-accented dark berries and violet on the fragrant nose and in the mouth; really showing its syrah today. Silky and intensely fruity on the finish, leaving notes of candied flowers and spicecake behind. The marriage of power and finesse here is quite striking.

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Reds: The Flamboyant 2014s and the Structured 2013s (Apr 2016)

Bright ruby-red. An expansive bouquet displays scents of lively red fruits, pungent flowers and incense, and a smoky mineral nuance builds in the glass. Clear, palate-staining raspberry and bitter cherry flavors show strong, spicy cut and mineral lift. The red fruit quality carries through an impressively long, focused finish framed by smooth tannins.

Squares & Circles: Bordeaux ‘10 At Ten (Apr 2020)

The 2010 Bouscaut has a gentle bouquet that opens with blackberry, raspberry, orange zest and light floral aromas. So pretty! The palate is medium-bodied with light tannins, a fine bead of acidity, quite savoury in style with a well defined finish that does not outstay its welcome. The 2010 Clarets: A Modern Classic (Jul 2013)

Good dark red. Brooding aromas of black raspberry, plum and menthol. Then surprisingly suave and fine-grained in the mouth, with noteworthy energy to the intense dark fruit flavors. Spreads out nicely on the spicy back end.
