2012 and 2011 White Burgundies (Sep 2013)

Bright yellow Knockout fruit-driven nose combines peach, quince and tangerine. Suave and fine-grained, displaying impressive intensity to its soft citrus and peach flavors. Lovely balance and perfume here. Silky, energetic and quite long, with the ripe peach flavor complicated by a touch of vanillin oak on the palate-saturating finish. This was bottled two days before…

The 2011 Côte de Beaune Whites: Grace in Motion (Sep 2013)

The 2011 Meursault Goutte d’Or is beautiful, ample and resonant on the palate. A wine first and foremost of texture, the 2011 is virtually impossible to resist in its youth. Pear, white peach and a gentle hint of spice frame a creamy, ample finish. What a pretty Meursault this is.

New Releases from Australia (Jul 2002)

Deep, dark ruby-red. Heady, superripe aromas of black plum, blackcurrant, blueberry and treacle, richly endowed with dark chocolate, vanilla and creamy oak; hints of mint and eucalyptus in the background. Silky-smooth, rich and creamy; remarkably approachable given its relative youth. Dripping with ripe black fruits and wrapped in firm but velvety tannins. A very good…

Ridge Monte Bello Revisited: 1968 – 2012 (Jul 2016)

Ridge’s 1996 Monte Bello is an absolute stunner. The bouquet evokes a top Left Bank Bordeaux in a great vintage. Not surprisingly, the Cabernet Sauvignon in the 1996 is very high at 80%. Every bit as compelling on the palate, the 1996 simply exudes class. I am not sure words alone can capture just how…

1999, 1998 and 1997 Bordeaux (May 2000)

Red-ruby. Deep aromas of kirsch, graphite and smoky oak. Fat, thick, concentrated and deep; quite fleshy but with backbone. Already offers enticing inner-mouth perfume. Long, satisfying finish features thoroughly ripe tannins and very persistent, sweet, chocolatey fruit. This is turning out very well indeed.

The Consistently Delectable 2014 Red Burgundies (Jan 2016)

Bright, deep red. Sexy aromas and flavors of cassis, smoke, minerals and coffee. Supple, creamy, seamless and sweet but with firm minerality giving definition and tension to the mid-palate. Finishes with suave tannins, excellent grip and perfumed length. Three-quarters of this very promising blend is from the climat Les Barreaux, located high up on the…
