2019 Bordeaux from Bottle: The Two Towers (Feb 2022)

The 2019 Le Dôme is absolutely compelling. All the elements are dialed up to eleven in a large-scaled, dramatic Saint-Émilion that has so much to say. Cabernet Franc is, of course, front and center at Le Dôme, as it always is. Black cherry, blackberry, mocha, espresso, lavender and dried herbs are all vivid in the…

Omne Trium Perfectum: Bordeaux 2019s in Bottle (Feb 2022)

The 2019 Le Dôme was the last vintage vinified in the old winery before Norman Foster’s "spaceship" landed (the new winery is spectacular). I admire the aromatics here; the Cabernet Franc feels unrestrained and very expressive, almost Loire-like in style. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, nicely detailed, maybe less ostentatious than previous vintages…

2019 Bordeaux from Bottle: The Two Towers (Feb 2022)

The 2019 La Conseillante is elegant and nuanced, just as it was from barrel. All of the freshness and energy that was present en primeur comes through in the bottle. There is an element of sophistication, of reserve, that needs time to be fully expressive. The 2019 is a wine of linear precision more than…

Bordeaux 2019: The Southwold Tasting (Feb 2023)

The 2019 La Conseillante was tasted twice, the first coming across just a little top heavy, yet returning after 20 minutes, it is quintessential La Conseillante. Black cherries, blueberry fruit and crushed violets come through with time. The palate is very sweet, plush and extravagant with layers of tasty oak, modern in style to the…

Omne Trium Perfectum: Bordeaux 2019s in Bottle (Feb 2022)

The 2019 La Conseillante was stellar from the sample sent to "Martin Towers" in spring 2020, and the news is that there is no change in bottle. Allowed to open while gossiping away with winemaker Marielle Cazaux (you have to catch up when you are unable to see people regularly), the 2019 unveils an awesome,…

2019 Bordeaux from Bottle: The Two Towers (Feb 2022)

The 2019 Certan de May is reticent and severe, both on its own and certainly in comparison with most Pomerols in this vintage. Tobacco, cedar, licorice and sweet red cherry struggle to emerge. My impression is that there is a lot of potential, but that potential is not always realized. I expected more here.
