Vintage Seeks Home: Bordeaux 2017 In Bottle (Jan 2020)

The 2017 Cos d’Estournel showed extremely well from barrel and likewise in bottle, continuing this estate’s strong run of form since the 2014 vintage. You instantaneously fall in love with the nose that bursts forth with blackberry, raspberry coulis, crushed stone, iodine and pressed iris petal. The 60% new oak is beautifully integrated. Quintessentially Cos…

The 2022 Champagne New Releases (May 2022)

The 2007 Comtes de Champagne Rosé is a very pretty wine to drink now and over the next two decades. Soft and inviting, with good energy, the 2007 is impeccable in its balance. Crushed red berry fruit, blood orange, cinnamon, rose petal and mint all meld together in this gracious, mid-weight Rosé from Taittinger. At…

2015 Brunello: The Vintage We Have Been Waiting For? (Apr 2020)

The 2015 Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova was quite restrained at first, requiring time in the glass to fully blossom, as subtle red berry fruits slowly gain volume and are then complemented by sweet red florals with hints of exotic spice, peppery herbs, and dusty minerals. On the palate, silky textures flood the senses with…

Montalcino: The Great 2015 Brunellos & More (Apr 2020)

Bright full red. Redcurrant, red cherry, violet, sweet spices, and orange zest on the scented nose. Not in the quite sweet and fleshy style this bottling is famous for, but suave and very well delineated, with the orange peel note providing inner-palate lift. Closes very clean with excellent length.

Champagne: 2021 New Releases (Nov 2021)

Henriot’s 2012 Brut Millesime is a soft, easygoing Champagne to drink now and over the next handful of years. Pastry, baked apple, spice and dried flowers are nicely laced together. This lacks some of the depth typical of the vintage, and yet it is charming and inviting just the same.

2014 Bordeaux: A September Surprise (Feb 2017)

The 2014 Ausone is going to need at least a few years to fully come together. Delicate, sensual and perfumed, the 2014 is one of the most refined wines of the vintage. The high %age of Cabernet Franc confers aromatic intensity, freshness and nuance, but also gives the wine an unresolved reticence that will likely…
