Taittinger: Comtes de Champagne 1971— 1998 (Aug 2010)

The 1998 Comtes de Champagne is a different story altogether. This is a sexy, up-front Comtes endowed with lovely richness in its fruit and open, expressive aromatics. It remains an impressive, inviting Comtes that should also continue to develop nicely in the bottle for at least another decade plus.

New Vintage Champagnes (Nov 2007)

(L6202UB02500 etched on bottle) Light yellow. Stony peach and pear aromas are complicated by smoked meat and Asian spices. Round and filled in, with admirably deep pit fruit flavors, a pliant texture and a fresh mineral kick on the finish. Leaves a strong pear impression on the palate and an echo of minerals.

Krug: 2006 In Three Acts (Sep 2020)

The 2006 Clos du Mesnil was harvested over three days, which is remarkable for a tiny parcel measuring 1.84 hectares divided into five blocks that are often picked over a wider timeframe. Soaring in the glass, the 2006 is stratospheric in its beauty. The richness of the year contrasts so beautifully with the flintiness and…

Domaine Georges Roumier Part 2: Chambolle-Musigny Les Cras 1er Cru (Nov 2022)

The 2002 Chambolle-Musigny Les Cras 1er Cru is a wonderful wine that is probably reaching its peak at two decades old. Wonderful transparency (one of the leitmotifs of the vintage) with crystalline red fruit that seems so vivid, with very subtle undergrowth notes in the background. The palate is beautifully balanced with a fine spine…

Priceless: Roumier Bonnes-Mares 1945 – 2015 (Sep 2018)

The 2002 Chambolle-Musigny Les Cras 1er Cru has a very pure bouquet with Morello cherry and crushed strawberry, all quite intense and gaining volume in the glass. The palate is noticeably sweet on the entry, quite tart and vibrant although it is missing the length of the 2002 Bonnes-Mares by direct comparison. But it is…

2003 and 2002 Red Burgundies (Mar 2005)

Good bright full red. Musky red fruits and flowers on the nose. Sweet, lively and intense, with classic Chambolle flavors of musky raspberry and strawberry, flowers and minerals. Wonderfully delicate, floral wine, and yet it finishes with palate-staining length and excellent grip.
