A Test Of Greatness: 2009 Bordeaux Ten Years On (March 2019)

The 2009 La Lagune is showing some brettanomyces on the nose, animally with saddle leather and maybe a little sweaty (picking up on the feral observation I made before). The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin, slightly pinched black fruit with a touch bitter and hard finish. Hopefully bottle age will soften this wine. A…

Bordeaux 2009: The Best Ever? (May 2010)

(a blend of 60% cabernet sauvignon, 25% merlot and 15% petit verdot) Deep ruby. Enticing aromas of violet, red cherry and graphite. Creamy and soft on entry, then shows surprising backbone to the rather delicate red and black fruit flavors. Finishes long and smooth, with a tactile, almost sweet mouth feel that may not be…

The 2009 Clarets (Jul 2012)

(60% cabernet sauvignon, 30% merlot and 10% petit verdot): Deep, bright ruby-red. Sexy aromas of currant, underbrush, leather and toasty oak. Plush, seamless and sweet; full-bodied but not heavy. Pliant flavors of currant, plum and earth expand to fill the mouth. Finishes with broad, fine tannins and sneaky building length. Classic Old World claret from…

The F-Word: Bordeaux 2017 (May 2018)

The 2017 Lagrange has a slightly earthy bouquet that feels a little flat compared to its peers. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannin on the entry. It is rather rustic in style, and square-jawed on the finish that needs more refinement.

2017 Bordeaux: The Heart of the Matter (May 2018)

The 2017 Lagrange, 100% Merlot, offers lovely brightness to play off the natural juiciness of the year. Red cherry, plum and floral notes grace the palate in this silky, nuanced Pomerol. Medium in body and nuanced, Lagrange will likely drink well with minimal cellaring. This is really quite lovely.

2015 Bordeaux: Every Bottle Tells a Story… (Feb 2018)

The 2015 Lafon-Rochet is gorgeous. Beautifully layered and polished in the glass, the 2015 oozes with pedigree. The flavors are bright and beautifully delineated throughout. Rose petal, mint, savory herb and bright, red-toned fruit add to the wine’s vivid, nuanced personality. In 2015, Lafon-Roche is all class. The blend is 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot,…
