Focus on Barolo and Barbaresco (Nov 2011)

Palish bright yellow. Ripe, fresh aromas of pineapple and white flowers. Supple and juicy, with pineapple and lemon flavors nicely framed by healthy acidity. Leads with its fruit. Finishes with good length and a touch of alcoholic warmth.

Barolo 2008: The Incredible Lightness of Being (Apr 2012)

The 2009 Alteni di Brassica comes across as quite rich and textured in this vintage. White peaches, melon, flowers and sage are some of the notes that emerge in the glass, while typical varietal Sauvignon notes are more in the background.

2006 Barolo: A Modern-Day Classic in the Making (Feb 2010)

The 1961 Barolo Riserva, a library release directly from the Borgogno cellars, offers up plenty of dried cherries, dried roses, licorice, tobacco, all framed by firm, dusty tannins. 1982 Bordeaux, 20 Years On (Jul 2002)

Deep red. Slightly funky, herbaceous nose dominated by aromas of leather and earth. Supple on entry, then rather diffuse in the middle. Dried out quickly in the glass, showing prune and fruit cake notes and signs of incipient oxidation.

Vertical Tasting of Quinta do Noval’s Nacional Vintage Port (Nov 2012)

Good full, deep red. Knockout nose offers red and black cherry, strawberry, spices and mint. Unbelievably young for a wine that’s nearly a half-century old, offering incredible power and thrust to its red berry, spice and mineral flavors. Fills the mouth with perfume. Combines extraordinary mid-palate lift with a silky texture and buns of steel,…

Bordeaux 2018: Back in Black (Apr 2019)

The 2018 Beaumont is dark, racy and voluptuous from the very first taste. Dark chocolate, plum, cedar, cloves and leather all infuse an attractive, succulent Haut-Médoc. The blend is 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot, and it is the Merlot that really seems to give the wine its mid-palate texture and overall…
