Bordeaux 2010: All That Glitters… (May 2011)

(a blend of 60% cabernet sauvignon and 40% merlot) Dark ruby-purple. Grapey, somewhat simple aromas of red and black fruits and flowers. Then fresh and bright in the mouth, with lively acidity lifting the delicate black fruit, tobacco leaf and mineral flavors. Finishes nicely vinous and moderately long.

The 2010 Clarets: A Modern Classic (Jul 2013)

Dark red. Musky, cool aromas of blueberry, mint, spices and herbs. Supple and fine-grained but dry and a bit herbal, conveying an impression of moderate ripeness. Licorice, spice and herb notes give freshness to the middle palate, but the finish turns dusty and a bit dry, showing modest persistence.

2007 Bordeaux : Don’t Hate Me Because I’m Overpriced (Jul 2010)

Bright medium ruby. Musky aromas of kirsch, licorice and dark chocolate. Primary, dense and rich, but not overly sweet. This chewy, fairly full wine needs time to unwind. Finishes with serious tongue-dusting tannins, emerging sweetness and a flavor of crushed dark berries.

2017 Bordeaux – Mirror, Mirror on The Wall… (Mar 2020)

The 2017 Montrose is a very pretty, polished wine that speaks much more to finesse than power. Expressive floral and spices notes add an attractive inner sweetness to a Montrose that in 2017 leans more into the red fruit spectrum. Gracious yet deep, with terrific overall balance, the 2017 Montrose is a total winner. What…

Vintage Seeks Home: Bordeaux 2017 In Bottle (Jan 2020)

The 2017 Montrose was so impressive from barrel and now, bottled since July, it continues to put in a strong case for being one of the best Left Bank wines. It has a very pure and intoxicating bouquet with intense blackberry, light cassis, juniper and violet aromas, almost Margaux-like in terms of personality. Although there…

1982 Bordeaux, 20 Years On (Jul 2002)

Good full medium red. Exotic yet lively aromas of roasted plum, marzipan and grilled nuts. Wonderfully dense but sappy, with grip of steel. Finishes powerfully tannic and extremely long, still with a touch of youthful austerity. A very impressive showing. Drink 2005 to 2025. (My second bottle was equally impressive but came across as even…
