2012 and 2011 Chateauneuf du Pape, Gigondas and Vacqueyras (Jan 2014)

(60% grenache and 40% mourvedre): Inky ruby. Heady aromas of red fruit liqueur, lavender, sandalwood and cola, with a smoky mineral topnote. Picks up a darker fruit character with air, showing superb concentration and spicy lift. The floral and cola notes come back strong on the finish, which is framed by smooth, sweet, harmonious tannins….

2011 Vintage Ports (May 2014)

Deep, saturated dark ruby. Penetrating aromas of black cherry, violet, lavender, licorice, dark tobacco and minerals. Sweet and expansive on the palate, offering concentrated but lively spice-tinged raspberry and bitter cherry flavors and a touch of candied flowers. Silky tannins add shape…

Then more red berries on the palate, with a saline nuance on the persistent, fleshy finish. Bright acidity really extends the flavors of red berries and underbrush….

The Annual Red Bordeaux Report (May 2004)

Medium red-ruby. Aromas of blueberry, blackberry, minerals and leather. Supple on entry, then moderately ripe in the middle, with notes of minerals and tobacco leaf. Finishes with a slight dryness. This seems to have gone into a shell following the bottling.
