Servants of the Seasons: Burgundy 2021 (Jan 2023)

The 2021 Morey-Saint-Denis Village shows the stem addition slightly more conspicuously than the Chambolle-Village, white pepper and touches of bay leaf. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannins, lightly peppered black fruit with notes of tobacco and dark chocolate towards the finish. This gains complexity in the glass. Promising – quintessential Dujac.

The 2021 Beaune Clos des Mouches Rouge 1er Cru is one of my picks from Drouhin this year. Wonderful, vivacious red fruit leap from the glass, hints of sous-bois and dried rose petal. The palate is beautifully balanced with fine mineralité, demonstrating more complexity than the preceding Beaune Cras with more grip on the finish….

The 2021 Nuits Saint-Georges Clos de la Maréchale 1er Cru has a well-defined bouquet: a mixture of red and black fruit and a touch of aniseed. The palate is well-balanced with gentle grip, powdery in texture, and slightly bitter towards the finish that needs a little more cohesion.

The 2021 Vosne-Romanée Village comes from the usual parcels in Les Communes and Barreaux. Pressed violet and iris flower on the nose, this unfurls naturally in the glass without making a fuss. The palate is medium-bodied with quite firm tannins on the entry, black and red fruit, saline and almost briny towards the finish. Bit…

Now, For My Latest Trick: Burgundy 2022 (Jan 2024)

The 2022 Pommard Clos de la Commaraine 1er Cru is the monopole of the new Domaine that lies directly behind the luxury hotel that is currently under construction. The perfumed bouquet brings pressed violet and mainly black fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with black fruit and a nagging herbaceous note underneath. It is very structured…
