The 2014 & 2013 White Burgundies (Sep 2015)

Very pale, bright yellow. Musky, deeply pitched aromas of stone fruits, grilled nuts and clove, plus a whiff of smoky reduction. Richer, fatter and broader than the basic village Puligny–and obviously riper–but given shape by healthy acidity and strong spice character.

The 2014 & 2013 White Burgundies (Sep 2015)

Sexy aromas of yellow fruits and resiny oak, plus a hint of candied peach. Dense and tactile, but with lively acidity framing the lemon and mirabelle flavors. Finishes with a lightly tannic impression.

Joseph Drouhin “Monty and Moose” (Oct 2020)

The 2016 Montrachet Grand Cru has a lucid silvery sheen. The bouquet is quite generous, offering scents of brioche, white peach and almond, all well defined and gaining intensity in the glass. The concentrated palate features notes of peach skin and ginger and a hint of caramelized pear. Quite a feisty Montrachet with a spicy,…

(production here was less than 50% of a normal crop but Drouhin benefited by being on the Puligny side of this grand cru as the Montrachet vines in Chassagne were decimated by frost): Pale bright yellow. Aromas of ripe apricot, pear, smoke and iodine along with a trace of apple from a lot that finished…

The Comedown: Bordeaux 2011 Ten-Years-On (Apr 2022)

The 2011 Calon-Ségur has a light, tertiary bouquet, quite tight at first, hints of dried blood coming through with time, a little toasty in style. This gains complexity and is quite appealing. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit, fine grain tannins, a keen line of acidity with one of the more refined finished…

2011 Bordeaux from the Bottle (Jul 2014)

Bright, deep ruby. Expressive aromas of blackcurrant, tobacco, licorice and spices are complicated by a note of torrefaction. Tight, juicy and intense, showing a floral blackcurrant flavor but little in the way of flesh today. Finishes pure and long. This minerally, floral wine is in need of at least four or five years of bottle…
