Precious Clay: L’Eglise-Clinet 1929–2015 (Jul 2019)

The 2007 l’Eglise-Clinet was picked 20 to 24 September. It has a deep color for a 2007 with little signs of maturity on the rim. It is typical of this Pomerol cru to ignore the reputation of this growing season and manifest a convincing bouquet packed with redcurrant and cranberry fruit laced with tobacco and…

2007 Bordeaux : Don’t Hate Me Because I’m Overpriced (Jul 2010)

Bright ruby-red. Black raspberry, licorice, mocha and a whiff of sweet butter on the nose. Wonderfully intense and juicy, with sappy flavors of dark berries, violet and minerals. Combines lovely sweetness with terrific verve. Perhaps best today on the broad, sweet, impressively long finish, which features very fine-grained tannins. Not the richest or most powerful…

2006 and 2005 Rhone Valley Wines (Jan 2008)

Inky violet. Fresh blackberry and boysenberry scents are complemented by olive, dark chocolate and anise. Weighty and sweet but focused, with juicy acidity adding lift and supple tannins extending through the finish. Manages to avoid being porty or overblown but this has remarkably deep dark fruit.

2012 and 2011 Chateauneuf du Pape, Gigondas and Vacqueyras (Jan 2014)

Bright purple. Dark fruit liqueur, star anise, cinnamon and licorice aromas are sharpened by a lively mineral quality and a touch of white pepper. Sappy, sweet and incisive, with a suave blend of power and vivacity to its blackcurrant and mulberry flavors. Juicy acidity gives focus to the finish, which features velvety tannins, a touch…

A Beautiful Stay: Beau-Séjour Bécot 1970-2015 (Apr 2018)

The 2008 Beau-Séjour Bécot was picked between 7 and 22 October. This has a very lively bouquet with blackberry, wild strawberry and hints of Seville orange marmalade, the oak neatly integrated and with just the right amount of spiciness to keep you entertained. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin with a fine line of…

The 2008 Clarets (Jul 2011)

Bright ruby-red. Blackberry, lavender and oak-driven cola, mocha and spices on the nose and palate. Lush, round and mouthfilling, with harmonious acidity restraining the wine’s sweetness. Vinous, long wine with impressive focus.
