The 2010 Clarets: A Modern Classic (Jul 2013)

Bright red-ruby. Good lift to the aromas of cassis, licorice and spices. Nicely delineated dark berry and fresh herb flavors show more richness and weight than usual for this property. A bit drying on the back but maintains its freshness.

The Top Clarets of 2006 (May 2009)

Good medium ruby. Expressive nose offers blackcurrant, plum, licorice, roasted herbs, smoke and minerals. Supple and refined, with lovely perfume and restrained sweetness. Finishes with substantial dusty tannins that coat the front teeth and turn a bit dry with aeration. Needs aging, but does not appear to possess the concentration or power of the best…

Squares & Circles: Bordeaux ‘10 At Ten (Apr 2020)

The 2010 Hosanna shows much more ripeness on the nose compared to its peers, more red fruit with perfumed cherries and bergamot tea aromas, rose petal and sage. The palate is silky smooth with what feels like a fair proportion of Cabernet Franc. It does not quite kick on towards the somewhat oaky finish, though…

The 2010 Clarets: A Modern Classic (Jul 2013)

(14.5% alcohol): Good deep red. Sexy aromas of plum, raspberry, chocolate and tobacco. Superripe, lush and sweet, with a remarkably round texture to the concentrated flavors of red fruits, caramel, mocha, spices and iron. As creamy as this is, there’s solid underlying structure here from the wine’s cabernet franc component. Finishes plummy and very long,…

Bordeaux 2010: All That Glitters… (May 2011)

Deep, saturated purple-ruby; this really stains the glass. Wild aromas of fresh blackberry, raspberry, chocolate and white pepper: you can really smell the old-vines cabernet franc here! Then very big and rich, with intense lavors of fresh red fruit, cocoa and spicy underbrush. A highly concentrated, almost brawny wine that expands in the glass and…

Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande 1921-2016 (Oct 2017)

The 2009 Pichon Lalande is ripe and decidedly flamboyant from the very first taste. Dense and voluptuous in the glass, with serious richness, the 2009 is also almost shockingly tannic. It won’t be ready to drink anytime soon, and yet, there is so much to look forward to. The warm, dry conditions yielded a dense,…
