The 2010 Red Burgundies (Feb 2012)

The 2010 Bonnes-Mares is a huge, spherical wine that fills out in every dimension. It truly is captivating from the very first taste. Black cherries, plums, smoke, graphite, licorice, menthol and tar burst from the glass as the wine shows off its statuesque, towering personality. The 2010 boasts stunning richness allied to powerful tannins in…

2010 Red Burgundies (Mar 2013)

Bright, deep red. Crushed blueberry, pomegranate, kirsch and licorice on the very fresh, perfumed nose, lifted by notes of lilac and peony. Suave and seamless on the palate, but with superb energy and lift to the flavors of cherry, purple fruits and spicy oak. Wonderfully juicy, sappy wine with a strong finishing note of blackberry,…

The 2010 Red Burgundies (Feb 2012)

The 2010 Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses is initially rather cool and inward, then blossoms gradually with time in the glass. It is a beautifully poised, centered wine endowed with tremendous focus and inner calm. Red berries, spices, crushed flowers and saline notes all continue to build as the wine works its way to the boisterous finish….

2010 Red Burgundies (Jan 2012)

Good deep red. Pungent aromas of tangy raspberry and crushed rock. Wonderfully lush and complex, especially for such a pristine, primary wine. Tangy flavors of cherry, fresh raspberry, pomegranate and licorice are lifted by strong floral and mineral elements. Wonderfully dense, precise and long, conveying an impression of tautness without any hardness. Potentially stunning.

The Comedown: Bordeaux 2011 Ten-Years-On (Apr 2022)

The 2011 Cos d’Estournel shows quite a bit of extraction on the nose with brambly red fruit, blackcurrant, iris flower and cedar, gaining cohesion with time in the glass. The palate is ripe and chewy, good depth but broad-shouldered, again, maybe a little heavy on the extraction, whilst the finish feels a little monotone. Difficult…

2011 Bordeaux from the Bottle (Jul 2014)

Good deep ruby. Spicy aromas of dark plum, red cherry, botanical herbs and graphite. Dense, bright and energetic, with good herbal lift to the precise blackcurrant and dark plum flavors. This fresh, lively wine picks up flesh and depth with aeration. The tactile, chewy finish is pure, long and perfumed.
