The Comedown: Bordeaux 2011 Ten-Years-On (Apr 2022)

The 2011 Doisy-Daëne has a tightly wound nose at first, unfurling to reveal pure honey, saffron and Mirabelle aromas. The palate is well balanced with a harmonious texture, fine acidity, very pure with an almost caressing honeyed, lemongrass-tinged finish. There is something almost tender about this Sauternes. Tasted blind at the annual 10-Year-On tasting.

A Century of Bordeaux: The Twos (Sep 2022)

The 2012 La Tour Blanche has an excellent bouquet, one of the best of the Sauternes that released in this vintage, with pure honeysuckle, quince and saffron scents. The palate is well balanced, taut and fresh with a fine bead of acidity, decent tension and a pretty finish. It does not have the substance to…

2012 Bordeaux: Messages in a Bottle (Jan 2016)

The 2012 Domaine de Cambes is soft, fruity and forward, with lovely palate density to match its open-knit personality. Bold and racy in style, the 2012 is an excellent choice for drinking over the next few years. Initially quite dense, the 2012 becomes a bit more delicate as sweet, floral notes emerge with air, giving…

Magic and Madness: Climens 1912-2020 (Aug 2022)

The 2014 Climens has 141g/L residual sugar and was cropped at just 8.8hL/ha. It has a pure and elegant bouquet. Honey, quince and white peach mixes with chamomile – this is irresistible. The palate is very well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, taut and fresh with a bewitching tensile finish. Quite penetrating and…

Bordeaux 2014: The Southwold Tasting (Mar 2018)

The 2014 Climens has to shake off a little reduction on the nose, eventually revealing dried honey, quince, apple blossom and caramelized pear aromas. The palate is very well balanced with a killer line of acidity that slices through the rich botrytized fruit. It fans out wonderfully towards the second, displaying great depth and concentration,…

Test of Endurance: Bordeaux 2014 Ten Years On (Mar 2024)

The 2014 Climens has a slightly more resinous bouquet than its peers, with well-defined scents of dried honey, peach skin and wet wool. The palate is well balanced with a pure and harmonious entry, wonderful acidity and superb precision on the finish that makes you want to take another sip. Superb. Tasted blind at the…
