The 2015 Pinot Noir La Côte possesses inner density and depth that give it an inward, implosive feel. A dollop of whole clusters adds some aromatic nuance. It will be interesting to see if the 2015 opens up over time. Today, it is quite reticent and not ready to show all of its cards.

Golden yellow; much darker than the Hengst. Very deep aromas of smoked pork, papaya, grilled pineapple, toffee and Bourbon vanilla. 2012 and 2011 Chateauneuf du Pape, Gigondas and Vacqueyras (Jan 2014)

(60% grenache and 40% mourvedre): Inky ruby. Highly perfumed bouquet of candied red fruits, Asian spices and incense, with a bright mineral overtone. Stains the palate with energetic raspberry and bitter cherry flavors that deepen with air. Closes on a suave floral note, with excellent clarity and length and smooth, harmonious tannins.

2010 and 2009 Southern Rhone Wines (Jan 2012)

Vivid ruby. Deeply pitched black raspberry, cherry and floral aromas are brightened by notes of Asian spices and minerals. Rich and fleshy but shockingly lithe, offering juicy red and dark berry compote flavors and complicating notes of candied lavender and allspice. Finishes sweet and long, with outstanding clarity and persistence.
