Test of Endurance: Bordeaux 2014 Ten Years On (Mar 2024)

The 2014 Haut-Batailley has a perfumed, floral bouquet with pressed rose petals and bay leaves infusing the vivacious dark berry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, very well-balanced and classic in style, with black pepper and graphite towards the finish. It gains intensity in the glass, completing a really delicious Pauillac that should…

Servants of the Seasons: Burgundy 2021 (Jan 2023)

The 2021 Vosne-Romanée Village comes from the usual parcels in Les Communes and Barreaux. Pressed violet and iris flower on the nose, this unfurls naturally in the glass without making a fuss. The palate is medium-bodied with quite firm tannins on the entry, black and red fruit, saline and almost briny towards the finish. Bit…

Dance the Quickstep: Burgundy 2020 (Dec 2021)

The 2020 Vosne-Romanée Village has quite an understated bouquet with black cherries, violet and light crushed stone aromas. It demands a little encouragement from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, quite fleshy and smooth with a slightly candid finish. Fine.

Dance the Quickstep: Burgundy 2020 (Dec 2021)

The 2020 Vosne-Romanée Les Chaumes 1er Cru has a very pure and perfumed bouquet with dark cherries, violet and hints of blueberry, the floral component emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fine acidity, silky in texture with a poised and almost delicate finish. A very winsome Vosne-Romanée in the making here.

Servants of the Seasons: Burgundy 2021 (Jan 2023)

The 2021 Vosne-Romanée Aux Brûlées 1er Cru is expressive and overtly floral on the nose…just how you want a Vosne to be. It discretely gains intensity in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied, with quite structured red fruit, symmetrical, nothing powerful yet almost “athletic” on the finish. I suspect this will gain weight throughout its…

Dance the Quickstep: Burgundy 2020 (Dec 2021)

The 2020 Corton-Perrières Grand Cru has a refined nose that gently unfurls in the glass with dark cherries and bilberry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe and quite bold tannins, fine acidity, quite dense and a little sinewy yet maintaining fine definition. Give this 4-5 years in bottle.
