2015 Bordeaux: Every Bottle Tells a Story… (Feb 2018)

Dark cherry, plum, violet, lavender, licorice and menthol notes infuse the 2015 Capbern. Pliant and inviting, with lovely fruit density, the 2015 is a terrific choice for drinking now and over the next decade or so. The 2015 speaks to balance and harmony above all else. Like all Saint-Estèphes in this vintage, the 2015 lacks…

Finally: Bordeaux 2015 In Bottle (Jul 2019)

The 2015 Capbern has a ripe and intense bouquet of black cherries, raspberry and touches of iodine, perhaps just a little more extraction than its peers. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly rustic tannin, just sagging a little in the middle where I would prefer more flesh, although it may fill out with time. It…

2017 White Burgundy: Quantity, Quality and Great Charm (Sep 2018)

(from 30-year-old vines): Bright medium yellow. Aromas of yellow fruits and menthol are complemented by smoky minerality. A bit tighter on the palate than the village wine, with ripe lemony acidity giving it better balance and vivacity. Slightly edgy on the very dry finish but shows good spicy lift.

2013 and 2012 White Burgundies (Sep 2014)

(2011 was the first vintage for this cuvee, which is a blend of three parcels): Bright pale yellow. Sexy, vibrant aromas of lemon, lime, mint and white flowers. Silky and supple in the mouth, with ripe acidity giving shape to the flavors of pineapple and grapefruit. An attractive, persistent village wine with the balance to…

2007 and 2006 Red Burgundies (Mar 2009)

Good bright red. Knockout nose melds musky, smoky soil tones, raspberry, blood orange, white pepper and coffee; wild and exhilarating. At once suave and electric on the palate, with wonderfully complex and alive flavors of raspberry, pungent minerals, pepper, smoked meat and dried flowers. This dense and intense but youthfully tight wine saturates the mouth…

Vinous Lockdown Special (Oct 2020)

Richness and energy come together so well in the 2017 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru. Time in the glass brings out the wine’s curves, but the 2017 is so young, especially when tasted next to some of the older wines in this mini-vertical. Lemon confit, marzipan and white flowers add that extra touch of inner perfume and…
