The 2014 & 2013 White Burgundies (Sep 2015)

(bottled in February of this year; all of the other ’13s were bottled in November or December of ’14): Healthy pale yellow. Aromas of lime, mandarin orange and musky white flowers. Plush and spicy, showing good concentration and decent acid cut to the pear and mineral flavors. I wanted a bit more energy for Corton-Charlemagne….

2012 and 2011 White Burgundies (Sep 2013)

Musky, oily peach and smoky oak on the nose. Round and sweet, with complex lemon, lime, stone fruit, honey and leesy flavors nicely framed by harmonious, ripe acidity. Less penetrating and subtle than the Caillerets but compellingly sweet and very long on the aftertaste. Plenty of power here.

2012 and 2011 White Burgundies (Sep 2013)

Musky, oily peach and smoky oak on the nose. Round and sweet, with complex lemon, lime, stone fruit, honey and leesy flavors nicely framed by harmonious, ripe acidity. Less penetrating and subtle than the Caillerets but compellingly sweet and very long on the aftertaste. Plenty of power here.

Totally different on the nose than the estate’s premier crus in 2014, offering aromas of yellow plum, musky stone, gunflint and honey. Shows a honeyed, spicy sweetness in the middle palate but finishes with a dry edge. A second barrel was more reduced and in need of a racking. Hard to assess with confidence today…

Pale, bright yellow. Lively aromas of exotic fruits, floral honey and clove. Silky, rich and suave, conveying sexy soil tones to its flavors of lime, menthol and white truffle. This nicely balanced, tactile Criots-Batard comes across as more refined than its 2014 sibling, but that wine was in an awkward stage at the end of…
