Southwold: 2016 Bordeaux Blind (Aug 2020)

The 2016 La Dame de Montrose has a backward, surly bouquet that demands coaxing from the glass. Black fruit intermixes with pencil lead and light mint aromas, but it is certainly tightly wound. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and a fine bead of acidity. Cohesive, if missing that killer blow on the finish….

2016 Bordeaux…It’s All In The Bottle (Jan 2019)

The 2016 Clos du Marquis is just as compelling from bottle as it was from barrel. Inky, deep and explosive, with superb depth and impeccable balance, the 2016 is fabulously delicious. One of the things I admire most about the 2016 is an uncanny ability to deliver serious flavor intensity without excess heaviness. This is…

The DBs: Bordeaux 2016 In Bottle (Jan 2019)

The 2016 Clos du Marquis was picked from September 30 to October 19. It has a generous, intense bouquet of blackberries, raspberry confit, cedar and light tobacco scents, representing a serious step up from the La Petite Marquise (as it should). The palate is rounded and quite sumptuous on the entry, and beautifully balanced, with…

Southwold: 2016 Bordeaux Blind (Aug 2020)

The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a fine bead of acidity, notes of blackberry and blueberry, and touches of graphite toward the slightly attenuated finish. I am certain this is shutting…

2016 Bordeaux…It’s All In The Bottle (Jan 2019)

The 2016 Pédesclaux has turned out beautifully. Dark cherry, plum, mocha, leather, chocolate, rose petal and dried herbs are all generous in this plump, juicy Pauillac. Medium in body, expressive and racy, Pédesclaux is a super appealing, modern Pauillac with soft curves and tons of immediacy.

2016 Bordeaux…It’s All In The Bottle (Jan 2019)

The 2016 Les Pagodes de Cos is super-expressive today. Pliant and inviting, yet also medium in body, the 2016 has much to recommend it. Grilled herb, tobacco, menthol, chocolate, licorice and black cherry are all seamless in this silky, open-knit second wine from Cos d’Estournel. The 2016 is incredibly harmonious, even in the early going.
