2010 Red Burgundies (Mar 2013)

Bright medium red. High-pitched aromas of cherry, menthol, licorice, fresh herbs and celery seed. Juicy, spicy and on the lean side, with slightly tart acidity enlivening the flavors of red cherry, raspberry, mint and menthol. Relies as much on its acids as on its light tannins for structure. Not a fleshy wine but pretty, vibrant…

The 2010 Red Burgundies (Feb 2012)

The 2010 Maranges Le Croix aux Moines shows great energy and focus in a medium-bodied style that is very appealing. Firm yet well-balanced tannins frame a core of expressive red fruit, flowers, mint and crushed rocks. This is a beautifully balanced wine from Camille Giroud that captures the personality of the year in spades.

The 2015 Red Burgundies: You Are So Going To Want Them (Jan 2017)

The 2015 Charmes-Chambertin is a soft-open knit wine with mid-weight structure and good overall persistence. This is the only wine in the range I tasted from tank. 2003 and 2002 Red Burgundies (Mar 2005)

Moderately saturated red-ruby. Mellow aromas of plum, leather, smoke and earth. Creamy-sweet on the palate, with a noble leathery rusticity. This has a very firm acid spine, especially for a wine with such ripe flavors.

2005 and 2004 Red Burgundies (Mar 2007)

Good bright, deep red. Wilder, musky nose hints at roast coffee. Sweet on entry, then sappy and imploded in the middle, showing less fat than the Echezeaux and a more muscular texture. Ultimately much less sweet than the south-side example. Finishes with substantial building tannins.

2001 and 2000 Red Burgundies (Mar 2003)

Bright medium red. Deeply spicy, superripe red fruits on the nose. Rich, broad and oaky, with a sappiness of fruit and depth of flavor not shown by the wines from Aloxe-Corton. Grew brighter as it opened in the glass, showing noteworthy power and good definition. Finishes with fine tannins and almost exotic sweetness.
