The 2010 Clarets: A Modern Classic (Jul 2013)

Good bright ruby-red. Expressive aromas of black raspberry, cassis, licorice, caramel and smoky oak are complicated by leather and game nuances. Large-scaled, rich and sweet but with harmonious acidity giving shape to the broad black and blue fruit flavors. Finishes rich and long, with surprising lift and plush, sweet tannins that reach the incisors. This…

Bordeaux 2010: All That Glitters… (May 2011)

(55% merlot, 35% cabernet franc and 10% cabernet sauvignon; 70% new oak) Medium-dark ruby-red. Spicy, perfumed aromas of superripe red cherry and plum lifted by a floral nuance. Sweet, supple and easygoing, with delicate red fruit flavors framed by harmonious acidity, which gives verve to the long, smooth finish.

A Century of Bordeaux: The Nines (Sep 2019)

The 1999 Angélus is another vintage I have tasted numerous times, from both bottle and magnum, the latter usually better. 2001, 2000 and 1999 Bordeaux (May 2002)

(75-100) Red-ruby. Evolving aromas of roasted red fruits, mocha, cedar and underbrush. Sweet, pliant and nicely fresh in the mouth, with a leathery nuance. Plenty of flavor and shape here. Finishes with strong but fine, horizontal tannins and good grip.

The Annual Red Bordeaux Report (May 2006)

Good full red. Roasted fruits, leather and a whiff of game on the nose. Fat and powerful, with impressive material and volume for this Margaux. Seems rather heavily extracted, but the wine’s sweetness is impressive. The young 2005 is finer, though.

A Century of Bordeaux: The Nines (Sep 2019)

The 1999 Haut-Brion is a very fine vintage from the estate, although it is probably overshadowed by the overachieving 1998. This bottle has the sensuality on the nose that I have observed before but is a little more opulent than I recall, yet very delineated with black truffle, cedar and cigar humidor infusing the black…
