Medium red. Floral aromas of cherry and raspberry; more complex than the Vaudenelles. A step up in sweetness and flesh, but also boasts the juicy quality of the Vaudenelles.

The Glorious 2002 Red Burgundies (Feb 2016)

Good medium red. Aromas of raspberry and musky underbrush plus a hint of cinders. Strong red berry flavors display a lovely balance of energy and sweetness, not to mention superb mid-palate breadth. Finishes sweet, fresh and long, with thoroughly ripe tannins. A superb vintage for this bottling.

2002 and 2001 Red Burgundies (Mar 2004)

Medium red. Red cherry, flowers and licorice on the nose. Silky and layered but with good tangy fruit. Still, this could use a bit more precision. Comes across as rather oaky today, and a bit harder-edged than the Clos du Fontenys on the back.

2001 and 2000 Red Burgundies (Mar 2003)

Medium red. Fresher aromas of cherry and licorice. Supple, sweet and fruit-driven, with more life and grip than the basic Volnay. This has decent texture and depth of flavor. Tannins are firm but sweet, and there’s a finishing note of leather. Can be drunk now or aged for a few years.
