2015 Bordeaux: Every Bottle Tells a Story… (Feb 2018)

The 2015 La Fleur-Pétrus is a magical wine. Soaring aromatics, beautifully layered, translucent fruit and exceptional balance are the signatures. Hints of orange peel, white pepper and rose petal add an exotic flair. A wine of total harmony, the 2015 offers superb intensity and structure to play off the natural richness of the year. A…

Bordeaux 2018: Not Back in Black (Mar 2021)

The 2018 Bélair-Monange races across the palate, showing its exuberant, flamboyant personality. Ripe plum, mocha, blood orange, star anise and cinnamon fill out the layers effortlessly. Sumptuous and generous, with striking balance, Bélair-Monange hits all the right notes. It can be enjoyed with minimal cellaring, but also has the pedigree to age effortlessly for decades.

The Future’s Definitely Not What It Was: Bordeaux 2018 (Mar 2021)

The 2018 Bélair-Monange, so impressive out of barrel, delivers now that it finds itself incarcerated by glass. It is endowed with a seriously impressive nose, delivering blackberry and still that faint warm brick/terracotta scent, shaved black truffle and a touch of clove. You could lose yourself completely in this bouquet. The palate has firmed up…

Caught Somewhere in Time: Clos de Tart 1887-2016 (Feb 2019)

The 2007 Clos de Tart Grand Cru was picked at 27hl/ha from September 6 with 13.66° alcohol, and matured in new oak for 18 months. It is consistent with the style of the vintage – relatively light compared to the “grumpy” 2006, offering vivacious cranberry, crushed strawberry and red currant fruit that intermingles with subtle…

2008 and 2007 Red Burgundies (Mar 2010)

(bottled in April of 2009) Bright red-ruby. Liqueur-like black raspberry, mocha and spices on the nose, with a hint of dried fruits. Then opulent, sweet and highly concentrated on the palate, with cherry, mineral and licorice flavors sexed up by a note of molten chocolate. This lacks the peppery high notes of the young 2008…

The Top Clarets of 2006 (May 2009)

Dullish red color. Liqueur-like raspberry, coffee, licorice, herbs and exotic woodsmoke on the nose. Supple and sweet, with a slightly intrusive pepper-and-herb quality that’s not yet in harmony with the wine’s slightly exotic character. Finishes with substantial dusty tannins that spread out to coat the palate.
