2006, 2005 and 2004 Bordeaux (May 2007)

Good deep ruby-red. Sexy aromas of black raspberry, coffee, chocolate, minerals and spices. Suave and fine-grained, with lovely lift and inner-mouth perfume to the flavors of dark fruits, minerals and flowers. Here, too, the wine’s 45% cabernet franc component is apparent. An essentially sweet, gentle wine that finishes with lush, fine-grained tannins and excellent length.

BOND: A Complete Retrospective (Nov 2017)

A very pretty and expressive Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2004 Vecina is also the first wine in this tasting that shows some degree of aromatic development. Even so, the 2004 is huge on the palate, with a bold, exotic expression of very ripe fruit. Scorched earth, smoke, tobacco and leather give the wine its distinctive, brooding…

A Bond Extravaganza (Jun 2017)

Deep medium ruby. A touch of reduction and serious medicinal reserve to the aromas of black fruits, licorice, mocha and stony minerality; showed a hint of pruney ripeness with air. Very concentrated, brooding, sappy wine with huge cassis, black raspberry, medicinal black cherry and licorice flavors framed by somewhat tough, granular tannins (the other Bond…

Northern Rhône: 2016 and 2017 Reds (Sep 2019)

Dark purple. Aromas of smoke-tinged dark berries, licorice and pungent flowers are sharpened by smoky mineral and spice flourishes. Spicy and deeply concentrated, offering energetic blackberry, cherry liqueur and violet pastille flavors, along with salty olive, cured meat and cracked pepper nuances. Fleshes out with air while maintaining vivacity and finishes impressively long and sweet,…

2017 Bordeaux – Mirror, Mirror on The Wall… (Mar 2020)

A real sleeper, the 2017 Cantemerle has turned out beautifully. Cedar, sweet tobacco, menthol, licorice and incense add pretty aromatic top notes in this super-refined Haut-Médoc. More than anything else, the 2017 stands out for its exceptional balance and alluring personality. This is a terrific showing.

The F-Word: Bordeaux 2017 (May 2018)

The 2017 Cantemerle has quite a sultry bouquet with blackberry, damp earth and tobacco scents that reluctantly unfurl in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin that frame quite voluminous black dusky fruit. There is a powdery texture to this Cantemerle, quite long on the finish even if it is missing the refinement…
